Competition Card and Year End Reflection

Well, here it is the end of another year.

I think I can say that the past year has been a very interesting and enjoyable one.

Graham and I found quality time for each other and we have vowed to do more (like weekend race meets, lunch and stuff), Mawgan dug deep and found her inner actress/scriptwriter and Anthony got a temp job as a maintenance technician.
Heather and I managed to organise 3 girly day get-togethers, window shopping galore..

Here's hoping 2015 is even more inspiring.

It is my dear cousin Cathy's birthday on the 6th Jan and when I saw the

"Pic a Fav" over on Papertake Weekly

I found my inspiration.

The 11th March 2014 Bingo challenge, GEMS  DIECUTS  FLOWERS, was the one I chose

I'm quite proud of the shadow effect on the diecut flowers, I had planned on just putting the black version on the card. I then decided to do white and colour it in.
I have cheated a little by adding all items used next to the photo.

My wish for the next year is to have more family get-togethers, find Mawgan a some music/acting classes or clubs, keep Anthony focused on improving his future prospects, take Anne for a mother/daughter morning once a month and at least one Buffy&Graham weekend away.
I know that is quite a wish list, but there is nothing wrong with thinking big!

I wish you all a wonderful new year, full of joy and inspiration

Merry Christmas

Hello and a belated Merry Christmas to all.

I know I haven't posted much lately, but I am hoping to be more active in the new year.

What a wonderful Xmas we had. For the first time in a few years we had all of our kids here. I'm hoping we can make it an every other year thing.
Here they are playing Little Big Planet 3.

We have also started a new Christmas dinner tradition, Prawns in Bloody Mary Sauce

100ml Ketchup
2 tbsp Horseradish
3 tbsp Vodka
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4tsp Tabasco sauce

So much nicer than the mayo rich sauce traditionally served in Britain. It also has a bit of bite.

I also have a fabulous husband, he bought me the most amazing presents.

This gorgeous necklace, which has my birth stone in the centre.

And the most spectacular leather purse

Isn't it the greatest colour and it smells lovely too (I know that may sound weird but hey). It has dozens of card slots and several zipped compartments. Brilliant!!

Cold Comfort

Hope everyone is well.

I have had a rotten cold for the past few days.
It must have been quite bad as my boss told me to go home (in slightly more colourful language) LOL
But more seriously I hope none of you get this, it is very unpleasant. I highly recommend purchasing some Lemsips or Cold/Flu Capsules.

I had made a birthday card for one of Mawgan's friends but I forgot to take a photo.
But I do Have an arty photo to share with you all
Well, alright it's more trainy than arty. Not often you get to see floatting trains though. This was taken at our local depots open day back in September.

Good health to you all
Best wishes

Caching Knight

Had a lovely day with my hero.
Yes, I said my hero. My darling hubby is my knight in shining armour (well jeans and jumper anyway), he risked his neck to retrieve a geocache after I was unable to pull myself up to.
The soft-focus effect was purely a fluke. I slid about a bit because the ground was a bit muddy.
This cache was the highest terrain difficulty we have done to date.
We have now cleared a hundred finds. We're hoping we can make a complete calender month of finds in the new year.

Well back to hooking ;-)

Quick update of october madness

Hard to believe it is already November but October has been an interesting time!

First Mawgy DJ's her autumn ball ("Eye Ball").
I started making xmas pressies, just some small crochet broaches.
Then came the Halloween costume.....Alice Return to Madness....Mawgans chosen horror game!

Unfortunately I forgot the blood but fairs fair, I was up till the wee small hours nipping and tweeking the length and hand-drawing the warped symbols. The horseshoe pendent was another labour of love.
But the whole dark make-up was the real triumph, I stered at the game-box for ages so I could get it just right.
I did get a huge hug when she woke up and saw her Halloween costume hanging on the living-room door.

She had a fabulous night of trick-or-treating with friend, whilst I (dressed in my she devil costume) enjoyed seeing and giving treats to all the little monster/Ghouls/Witches and Ghosts. I even got a visit from a couple of tiny pumpkins....sooooo cute!!!
Before anyone asks there is no photo of me in my costume :-p

Eye Ball

Just a quick note

Our little Mawgy did her first DJ set at her school's halloween disc "The Eye Ball".............(teachers?!?!? LOL)
Lots of little and not so little zombies, witches and creatures that go bump in the night, walking outof the school gates.
 But here's our DJ

Vampire maybe?

Definitely inherited the pale celtic skin tone

Then again it could be the terrible flash on my mobile

But it could also be a glich in the matrix
(sorry bad movie pun, but she definitely has a Trinity thing going on here)

I am however, quite looking forward to seeing all the neighbourhood kids dressed up in their scariest outfit.

Off to find the garlic incase she hasn't finished her homework....lol

Back soon with more cards n crochet

Sunflower

I'm definitely getting back into the card-making swing.....and loving it!

I loved the challenge that was set by "The Card Concept"

The idea of bright sunny flowers was too tempting to pass up.
It also meant I could dig out my favourite stamp, so here is my take:
It's slighty shabby chic and I used masking to give it a little depth
and naturally the insert had to have a sunflower too . The border is free-hand.
  • Stamps - LOTV Teddy Flower, freebie sentiment and WMS Gingham&Co
  • Inks - Momentos Tudeo Black and S.U. So Saffron
  • Pro-Markers
  • Lace from stash

Up for a challenge

Hello!
Well, it's been a little while since I entered a card challenge.
But with my sister-in-laws birthday being next week I figured it was time to get back into card-making mode.
So I have created a quick and simple 2 challenge card

I chose to make a colour layers card, with simple clean lines and minimum stamping.

I used SU card stock, daffodil delight, perfect plum, gumball green and pumpkin pie.
The feather stamp is from the "Fine feathers" set.
The ink is SU daffodil delight and perfect plum

I am currently attempting to crochet myself a cardigan, but I'm not happy with the pattern. So I guess it's a case of design from scratch......eek!

Another quick peek at a holiday pic
We met this handsome little creature in the mediterainian Biome at the Eden project.
Probably a good thing our son wasn't with us.........
It was a gorgeous place and full of interesting plants and exhibits.
The food was amazing too

Celebrate!!

Good evening

It's hard to believe but I have been a non-smoker for 2 years

WOOHOO!!!!

I am very pleased with myself and will keep encouraging friends to quit too.

Another holiday snap to share
a pair of Egrets near Looe

On a different note;-
Our local rail depot (Etches Park) had an open day, so we dragged Mawgan along kicking and screaming (well she a misery face on till she spotted the ice-cream).
There was a re-railing demo (not often rail staff are allowed to derail a vehicle). It was quite interesting, although Mawgan was disappointed they weren't using the rail-crane.
We watched them turn wheels on the lathe.

But this was my favourite from the day
This model was amazing, the detailing is truly admirable. It is actually a model of the first diesel loco built in Britain, but more importantly, the first diesel built here in Derby.

Well, now that I have bored you with nerdy train stuff I shall go get some much needed sleep.
Back soon with our Eden Project adventure

Quick Update

Goodness, it's been a while since my last post.

So, we have been for a lovely holiday in Cornwall. We stayed in Polperro.

Here Mawgan and Graham are checking out some rockpools
Mawgan managed to spot this tiny chap sitting on some seaweed
But what really made her day was when we came across this place in Looe
Not often you see the correct spelling.
It was a wonderful holiday. It's been so long since we had a proper getaway. Graham and I even got to do a bit of geocaching.
We also visited the Eden project, it was amazing. Although the rainforest biome is not for the faint hearted, while we were there it hit 26 degrees celcius with 90% humidity. We also had to dodge the T-Rex that was running around scaring little kids.

But it wasn't all sun and sand, I managed to whip up a Beanie & Booties set for one of the girls at work

Her sister had a little boy, so I rushed to add the blue edging and little anchor.

Well, it's been a long day and there is still one work day left this week.....

Good Night

Freshly Made Card and

What a fab weekend!!!
I have managed to get to Dabblers, finish the share squares I'm making for Kimmy on Ravelry, make several flowers for an upcoming yarn-bomb and............

make a card for the Freshly Made Sketch competion
our brother-in-laws birthday is the same day as mine, so no excuses for forgetting..and here is my take on the sketch:
Inks - SU Cherry cobbler, SU Crumb cake, SU Sandstone
Card - White, SU Cherry cobbler & Kraft
Stamps - WMS Gingham&Co, Chronology(free set from mag)

I had thought of using golf clubs but discovered I didn't have a stamp. I was sure I had one...oh well!

I thought I would also share my yarn-bomb flowers with you

I have inset a different angled image of each flower to give a better sense of one. The top 2 flowers is are Dahlias and the bottom one is a Damask Rose
I am very pleased that I finished the share squares I was doing for Kimmy.

She asked for blues or grey, so I hope she likes the blues I picked.
I decided to use the ferris wheel pattern because she said it was for her husband.

Well back to the hook & yarn and whip up a few more flowers

Mawgan's Creation and a couple of cards

My youngest daughter had a sudden urge to bake today.
She made her first solo Victoria Sponge cake and I have to say it was gorgeous.
I think she will be baking our pudding from now on.
She also made a dozen fairy cakes, which she has decided to take to school for her friends.
Mawgan can be such a little angel.....when she wants to be :-)

I almost forgot to share the card I made for my god-son Josh
Who is planning to join the navy, which is quite exciting. I couldn't resist using this adorable stamp I've had sitting doing nothing for about a year
And last but not least, a girly card I whipped up last week:
Well, I hope you have enjoyed my share items
I will hopefully be back really soon with more sharing

Eventful days and A little Note

So I have made a card (or maybe letter holder) for my dear friend Debs, who is still on america.

I have used two challenges to create my card:

Mojo Monday - Tall & Skinny

Colour Q #248
I really enjoyed creating this card as I haven't seen Debs since last summer and I've been so busy with work I haven't had much time to create.

I decided to use my new SU stamp set - Six Sided Sampler and an old favourite LOTV Teddy Flower ( I masked this so only the bear and letter remained)

Shapes were cut using: SU hexagon punch, Spellbinder Oval and the Tattered Lace Lacey Daisy and Tree

Card Stock is Sahara sand, White and Marina Mist

I said above(or maybe letter holder)

I can assure you I was not joking, I had to stick two sheets of paper together so I could finish her letter
But it was worth it. She is a friend worth extending for :-)

Friday was an eventful sort of day.
I had a little accident on the way to work.
As I turned out of a small side road there was a car on the wrong side of the road. I swevered to miss it and squeezed my brakes hard and was thrown off my bike. I scraped myself up and carried on cycling to work. My shoulder and wrist are still quite painful, but nothing a couple of pain-killers can't dampen.
Luckily my bike was alright.

Enough yuck, now back to the happy stuff

I did make Graham an anniversay card the other week:-
We have been married 22 years now and we'll have been together 27 years in October

I also made one for my neice too

Well, it's starting to get late and I haven't had my shower yet :-)
Night night

Quick Hello

Hello,

Well I do have a couple of cards to share, but unfortunately I haven't had a chance top upload the piccies just yet.
I have my nephew, neice and one of my best friends cards to show. So watch this space.

We have managed to drop off a trackable (geocaching thing) even with this miserable rain. Hopefully however collects it will ensure that it heads East. This was the request of the person who released it and someone in their wisdom brought it back to englad from Finland ---- now geography was never my strongest point but even I know that that is a west move not an east move.

Well, work in the morning so up the wooden hill for me

Challenge and Reveal

Hello,
I hope everyone I know had a wonderful xmas/hanukkah/yule and a very Merry (not too drunk) New Year.

First things first, my lastest creation for a couple of challenges:

I decided to make a gift bag.
Don't know why, just didn't have my card-making head on.

I have used:-
Inks - Crisp Cantelope, Sahara Sands, Smokey Slate and Night of Navy

Card - Crisp Cantelope, Sahara Sands and Crumb Cake

Ribbon - Peach parfait

Stamps - WMS - Compact Family, Irish Blessings and Fancy Flourishes & Scallops & Dots.

Adhesive Pearl Swirls (which just happened to go beautifully with the WMS stamps

I know it's been a while for the official reveal but here it is........
I'm affraid the image is a little out of focus (old age...eyes are going....lol). But I can't help loving this little guy, he's just so cute.
  • Inks - SU Riding Hood Red, SU Smokey Slate and Momentos Tuxedo Black
  • Card - SU Basic Grey and cream
  • Stamps - WMS and Cute Elf

Well I'm off to bed now
Hugs to all
Buffy xx
